In Year 10, alongside the six chosen option choices and compulsory Maths and English (Language and Literature), pupils will have the choice of three short course options to complement their studies.

The available options are:

  • GCSE RS Short Course - a certificated Short Course GCSE for those not studying RS as a full GCSE. The examination for this will take place at the end of Year 10.
  • Sports Leadership Qualification - Delivered and assessed in school leading to a formal leadership qualification assessed at the end of Year 10. (This is now full)
  • OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Award in ICT - A GCSE equivalent accredited award in the use of ICT.
  • Engineering - An in-house created course covering all aspects of engineering: from planning, to designing, to building and testing prototypes, using electronics, programming and manufacture. With an overarching project based on the Mars Rover, the course will be a blend of theory and practical teamwork.
  • Learning Support - A chance for those pupils who require Learning Support, but don't want to drop a full-GCSE to have some time with our dedicated LS teachers for additional 1:1 lessons (Charged at the usual LS rates).
  • Independent Study - A chance for pupils to use this time to study independently (In a supervised environment), read around their subjects and consolidate their learning.
