In Year 11, alongside the six chosen option choices and compulsory Maths and English (Language and Literature), pupils will have the choice of some short course options to complement their studies. The short courses will have a period a week of dedicated time.

The available options are:

  • Further Mathematics GCSE - Pupils will work towards the AQA Level 2 in Further Maths (GCSE) and sit the examination for this in May/June. This course will supplement the GCSE Mathematics course and provide a good basis for moving on to study A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in the Sixth Form.
  • Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) - An independent GCSE level qualification. Some pupils will have completed the FPQ in Year 9 and this is the next level up from that and the level/standard between an FPQ and the EPQ which is studied in the Sixth Form. A course for promoting independent learning in a topic area of the pupils choice.
  • Learning Support - A chance for those pupils who require support from our LS team, but who do not want to drop a GCSE, to have some time with our dedicated LS teachers for additional 1:1 lessons (Charged at the usual LS rates).
  • Independent Study - A supervised period for pupils to focus on independent study and reading around their subjects to consolidate their learning.
