The Warminster School Pre IB Programme is a well balanced and rigorous one year (I)GCSE programme for pupils in Year 11 (School age 15-16). It is the perfect programme to set pupils up for Sixth Form study, whether that be through the IB Diploma or A Level route.
The programme very much follows the principles behind the IB Diploma and all six subject areas are covered:
- Group 1 (Language and Literature) - Own Language/MFL
- Group 2 (Language acquisition) - English/MFL
- Group 3 (Individuals and societies) - History
- Group 4 (Experimental Science) - Biology/Chemistry/Physics
- Group 5 (Mathematics) - Maths
- Group 6 (The Arts) - Art
As well as following up to 7 (I)GCSE qualifications, all one-year GCSE pupils have tutor time, Games and Physical Education, attend whole school assembly in the Minster Church and follow a varied co-curricular programme. They will also complete a Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) which is equivalent to a GCSE grade and mimics the Extended Essay conducted in the IB Diploma. All of our Year 11 pupils will take part in community service.
The one-year GCSE pupils are fully integrated with other Year 11 pupils in over 50% of their timetabled lessons, as well as integrating in the boarding community.
As each pupil will have a variety or experience and interest, we provide an element of choice for all pupils to try and meet their needs.
All pupils study Maths, English, History and their own First Language
Pupils must choose three additional subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French and Art
Finally, pupils with enough experience can study French, Spanish or German as a Modern Foreign Language (MFL) subject. Those choosing not to study an MFL will follow an EAL programme.
