Sixth Form Entry Requirement
In order to access the curriculum that we offer in the Sixth Form, pupils are expected to gain a minimum of five
passes at grade 5 or above at GCSE and a minimum grade 6 in the subject(s) they
wish to study, however a grade 7 is required in order to study Maths and the Sciences.
Experience shows that these grades are required to ensure that pupils are able to have some success in the subjects they choose to study.
For those applying from outside of the UK system, an analysis of reports and other qualifications will be undertaken.
Making Choices (A Level)
Pupils are reminded that three subjects plus an EPQ is the norm at this level of study. However, pupils wishing to study four A Levels should choose four and a decision on the number of subjects and suitability will be discussed in one-to-one meetings with Mr Sully (Deputy Head – Academic) or Mrs Walmsley (Head of Sixth Form).
Those pupils choosing Further Maths MUST also choose Maths.
Cambridge Technical Business and Sport & Physical Activity is available as a ONE or TWO A Level equivalent course.
Making Choices (IB)
The IB options form will lead you through the choices. A pupil has to study a subject from each of Groups 1 to 5. Group 6 (Arts) can be studied or if a pupil prefers, they can choose another subject from Groups 1 to 5.
Pupils must choose THREE HL subjects and THREE SL subjects.
A number of courses are available as Online Provision as indicated on the form. A pupil may only choose one Online Provision course as part of their IB programme. All Online Provision courses are provided by an accredited IB provider and are charged at an additional cost of £1,500 per academic year (£3,000 for the full IB programme).
Making Choices (IB Career-Related Programme)
Please choose one subject from the Cambridge Technical group below and up to four subjects from the list of IB Diploma subjects.
A mixture of HL and SL subjects can be chosen, however we normally recommend one of the combinations listed below:
- 2 HL Subjects
- 2 HL Subjects + 1 SL Subject
- 2 HL Subjects + 2 SL Subjects (Not advisable due to workload)
- 1 HL Subject + 2 SL Subjects
- 1 HL Subject + 1 SL Subject (Not advisable due to university options available)

Making Choices (Blended Programme)
It might be that, having considered the three routes above, a pupil would like to study a mixture of components from each of the three traditional routes above. If this is the case then pupils may select 3/4 subjects from all of those available.
This programme is complex and we will do our best to make these choices work in the timetable.

If you are considering a Blended Programme please liaise with Mrs Gill Walmsley, Head of Sixth Form, (gwalmsley@warminsterschool.org.uk) or Mr Mark Sully, Deputy Head Academic, (msully@warminsterschool.org.uk) to check on the feasibility of the chosen subject combinations.
