Dear Parents,
Speech and Drama Lessons at Warminster School
At Warminster School, Speech and Drama is a popular Co-curricular activity, where pupils follow the New Era syllabus in Acting and/or Devising Drama. The New Era Academy is an international awarding body recognised by OFQUAL and is one of the leading regulated Boards in the UK. NEA is an innovative examinations board, offering diverse and varied disciplines through well-structured syllabi. Learners can obtain UCAS Tariff points at Level 3, enhancing their chances of University or Higher Education entrance. Not only do Speech and Drama lessons build confidence and develop creativity and imagination, but they are also excellent fun for pupils of all ages!
Lessons happen during the school day on a rotational basis. Pupils’ Speech and Drama lessons will be at a different time each week, thus minimising disruption to the curriculum. A rota detailing lesson times is published at the start of each term. It is issued to pupils and is displayed in various locations around the School.
There will normally be two examination days in the school year. A letter will be sent to you before these exams asking for your signature to agree with the Grade your child has been entered at and the cost of the examination. In the past four years we have had a 100% pass rate for graded exams, with 70% of candidates receiving Distinctions.
Speech and Drama lessons can be taken individually or as a duo. Duo lessons would be a good choice for two pupils wishing to work together towards the same grade for the examination.
Getting to lessons
In the Prep side of the School pupils are collected from lessons. Parents are invited to contact the Speech and Drama teacher should they suspect that a clash with a school trip is likely. In the Senior side of the School, pupils are expected to arrive at lessons on time. Teachers will not come to find them as the site is too big, however, missed lessons (except in the case of teacher absence) will be charged for. Senior pupils are expected to check ahead and swap with someone else on the timetable should there be a clash. A watch with an alarm set each week is a tried and tested success to help with this.
