We are excited to announce that we will be moving our file storage from on-premises file shares to OneDrive for Business. This move will provide several benefits for you and the school, including:

• Increased security: OneDrive for Business uses industry-leading security features to protect your files. Your files are encrypted at rest and in transit, and they are only accessible to you and the people you share them with.

• Improved collaboration: OneDrive for Business makes it easy to collaborate on files with others. You can share files with anyone, and you can see who is working on a file and when they made changes.

• Enhanced mobility: OneDrive for Business allows you to access your files from anywhere, on any device. You can work on your files from your computer, your phone, or your tablet.

• Simplified management: OneDrive for Business is easy to manage. You can easily set permissions for files, and you can track who has access to your files.

Therefore, to start our transition to OneDrive we are going to be moving all our home drives (this is your personal storage area also known as drive F) to OneDrive, which is part of our Office 365 subscription and each users has their own OneDrive already. Some of you already use OneDrive either the schools or your own personal one if you use Microsoft services at home, others have in previous jobs and others may not.

We are detailing what will happen and how this will affect you. This process will also happen for pupils too and they will also be informed.

First, we will be copying all the files from your home drive up to your OneDrive we will choose a date to do this and inform you, this process will be run once therefore, from that point anything that you put onto your F drive will not be migrated automatically you will have to move it manually. To help with this process please may we ask you to go through your current home drive and clear out any files you do not want uploaded.

The migration will take some time to run through but once it has completed, we will inform you that it has finished. You will then be able to access your files via the OneDrive web app and mobile app anywhere or via windows explorer on school computers. There will be a separate guide on how to use these.

We will set your drive F to read only so if any files were missed over the migration period they can be moved. But you will not be able to create new files on the drive. We will also remove this drive form foldr as you will be also to access your data via OneDrive anyway

When you save work in any of the Office apps the default location will be OneDrive and you. For other applications you may have to select your OneDrive again we will have Documentation giving an example of this.

Further into the future we will move moving other file shares such as Pool staff and Poll pupil and others but for the time being they will still be on premise shares and be accessed like you have always done
