Boarders leaving school for Quiet Weekends, Half Terms and End of Terms
Warminster School prioritises the academic development of our pupils. We encourage boarders who need to travel home to book the last possible transport of the day so as not to miss academic lessons for travel. Please refer to the information below for preferred travel times.
Please consider that a pupil will depart school approximately 1pm, for a 5pm flight from Heathrow. This may vary slightly due to factors including inclement weather and sharing transfers, as we endeavor to help our parents keep these costs to a minimum.
Your child’s housemaster or housemistress are responsible for granting permission for departures on the last day of term and at half terms, they will review each travel request on an individual basis and confirm if permission is granted.
Please contact your boarding house prior to the travel form deadline if you have any questions.
The dates of quiet weekends, half terms and end of terms are published well in advance and can be found on the school website and school calendar.
Permitted Travel Times
The end of the school day is 5pm on quiet weekends and 4pm at half term and the end of term. This is the expected collection time for any boarder traveling within the UK.
For long distance travel within the UK an earlier departure time can be arranged. Please contact your boarding house.
For EU flights, pupils can depart from lunchtime, on the final day of term, with permission from their boarding house housemaster or housemistress.
For long haul international flights, pupils can depart from 5pm, on the penultimate day of term, for late evening flights or to travel to guardians for early morning flights the next day. Permission for this is from their boarding housemaster or housemistress. Please note boarding houses open from 7am. Long haul flights are not recommended over a quiet weekend.
On Speech Day (May Half Term) All pupils are expected to attend and will not be permitted to depart from school before 1.30pm. Flights should be booked in accordance with this.
If for any reason a boarder is travelling outside of these permitted times, permission must be obtained from the Deputy Headmaster, Mr Titley, by email request and in good time to submit your Firefly travel form.
I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support in ensuring that all our boarders have safe and well organised departures home.

Returning to School: We expect boarders to return to school (after weekends, holidays and for the start of term) between 2pm and 8pm. The houses will stay open until 10pm. If a boarder has travel problems and will be delayed, the relevant house must be contacted by the boarder, parent or guardian, and suitable arrangements will be made for their return. If your child has a late flight where the return to the House exceeds 8pm roll call please email the houses accordingly for permission. In the event that their return is excessively late they will need to stay with their guardian overnight and be brought to school in good time to start lessons the next day. The houses do not open before 7am in the morning. |

All prices above are approximate, per journey and are per taxi; therefore, this cost will be shared between the numbers of boarders travelling. Please note that we cannot guarantee that all pupils will be able to share transfers due to flight times. London Heathrow is the most popular airport used, along with London Gatwick. There is also a very good rail link to Bristol Airport (direct train to Bristol Temple Meads then shuttle bus to airport), but extra time may be required for travel and the cost will vary depending on day and time. When demand requires a bus may also be used for multiple transfers.
Costs last updated October 2025.
