Look at cell division under the microscope
Do you have a microscope or an extra lens attachment for your mobile phone? If so, a great experiment to do at home is to look at how cells divide in different organisms. One of the easiest is baker’s yeast. With a magnification of at least 400x, you can start discerning the shapes of individual yeast cells in water. You will notice that some of them have little buds on them, which is the way they grow and divide.
If you don't have access to a microscope (or equivalent) you could research the best way to observe mitosis in living tissues. You could produce an outline plan which should include:
- Main steps
- Solutions used. What do they do? Why are they used? Is the strength important?
- Safety considerations
Likely results and any analysis that could be done on them e.g. maths.
