Experimental work:

A: You should be able to do this at home; using Youtube or similar find out how you can extract DNA from a plant organism, if possible do so.  You will need access to alcohol so please check before using!  If you are not able to do that you could investigate PCR and DNA finger-printing. 

B: Devise a plant breeding experiment to produce ‘black flowers’ eg you want to produce ‘black’ tulips. How would you achieve this, then once you had achieved the aim how would you continue to propagate the plant. 

C: Either in your garden or if you have access to it a piece of open ground/woodland investigate the distribution of a named plant species. Then devise a further experiment to investigate the number of different species in two comparable areas, which area has the greatest ‘species richness’ or biodiversity. If you are able to do this I would like you to evaluate this work, how would you improve or develop it, think about how you would apply this process to a much larger habitat. Think about control variables, controls etc.
