Since the 1800s, our knowledge and understanding of chemistry has grown rapidly. To make sense of all of this knowledge, chemists divided chemistry into three main categories: inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. Each category is equally important. There are millions of different compounds in existence, and the vast majority are organic compounds. So..what is organic chemistry?
This week you are going to investigate and find out.
Are we ready?.....www.youtube.com/watch?v=5plgPebkitU
Task 1: Use the gallery of pictures below, the video and independent research to prepare an account of what is organic chemistry, what are hydrocarbons, what do we mean by saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
There are millions of organic compounds, so it can be challenging to make it clear which ones we are referring to. There are two main ways to refer to organic compounds. We can use formulae and names. In this lesson we will consider how to refer to organic compounds using formulae.
Task 2: from anything in your house, make a model of an organic molecule and keep it in front of your computer for us all to see.
Task 3. Use the link below and the following videos to prepare a PowerPoint for presentation to your peers via Video Conferencing on different types of formulae.
