Below are a range of different resources to help prepare you for the progress test. It is up to you how much you interact with these resources, however the more you practice the better your understanding will be.

VIDEOS

Below is a video which shows how to draw possibility spaces. This is really just a neat way of writing down all the possible outcomes of an experiment:

Mutually exclusive events

The two videos here recap mutually exclusive events, what this phrase means and the 'OR' formula for mutually exclusive events. The second video explains how the 'OR' formula changes for when two events are not mutually exclusive.

Independent events

The first video here recaps independent events, what this phrase means and the 'AND' rule for independent events. The second video here goes through successive (i.e. one after the other) independent events and using the 'AND' rule multiple times (these questions are trickier and often you have to think about all the different combinations of the desired outcome happening).

Venn diagrams

The first video here recaps the notation and definitions of intersection, union and complement. The second video shows you how to use Venn diagrams to answer probability questions and uses some of the notation in the first video. The third video introduces you to conditional probability and how to find conditional probabilities from Venn diagrams.

RESOURCES

Try these questions to practice probability using Venn diagrams, including some tricky conditional probability questions. Make sure you have watched the videos!

The questions below test your knowledge of independent events and the 'AND' rule. There is also plenty of mutually exclusive and 'OR' rule practice in a lot of these questions. Make sure you have watched the videos!
