In Music Technology, we learn about how to write and produce music using Logic Pro X, the history of recording and recording technology which includes looking at musical genres from the 20th Century including Jazz, Rock, Metal, Commercial Pop and many more.
It is advantageous to have access to Logic Pro X outside the classroom. Many students use their own MacBook Pro for this course and purchase a copy of Logic Pro X (which can be bought at a significant discount through UniDays) although this is by no means compulsory. The Music Department has a suite of iMacs which are also available to use through the school day.
At Warminster School we subscribe to www.musictechstudent.co.uk and we utilise much of their content as it is specifically structured for the course.
Task 1 and Task 2 - go to www.musictechstudent.co.uk and Login.
Username: Warminster1707
Password: B0n1face (yes that's a zero and a one instead of the letters)
then answer the simple maths problem to prove you are not a robot!
Then watch the short video outlining the course with this link https://musictechstudent.co.uk/a-level-music-technology-2017-9mt/#
Feel free to look at anything else you wish to on that page.
Note: we plan to do the full A level course as in our experience it is a great deal to learn for an exam at AS in one year!
Next: Navigate in Resources (Firefly) to Music, Y12,13 Music Technology and click on the page The Basics of Sound. Read pages 5 and 6 of the pdf (The basics of sound) and draw Mindmaps for the areas on those two pages. (It's important you are able to navigate to the Music Tech area in Firefly) Here is the pdf anyway just in case you have difficulties at first.
Task 3: Please read pages 7 and 8 of the pdf and draw mindmaps again for these 2 pages. Take your time to understand the keywords highlighted in bold and which areas of sound they relate to as all these keywords in the pdf are the building blocks of the course.
Task 4: Please write a quiz between 10 and 15 questions long on the areas and keywords from pages 5,6,7 and 8. Make them either multiple choice ( 3 answers) or a statement that is true or false. Please include an answer sheet, and upload the quiz to Firefly as I will distribute the quiz to other pupils doing these tasks.
Please email me with any problems or questions you have. These tasks are not too onerous but, they are important for a head start in September and you have until Friday of this week to complete them. Mr Gaz.
